About
Choosing an economics program means reading dense calendars from several universities, each counting credits its own way. The Visible Hand does that reading once, carefully, and lays the results side by side.
Why it exists
Two programs can share a name and almost nothing else. One economics degree leaves half its units open for a minor; another fills nearly all of them with math and econometrics. Entry rules, GPA thresholds and hidden prerequisites shape which doors stay open after first year, and they are easy to miss. This site makes those differences visible.
Why “The Visible Hand”
In The Wealth of Nations (1776), Adam Smith described people being “led by an invisible hand” to outcomes they never intended. Choosing a degree can feel the same way: a few small choices in first year, buried in a long calendar, quietly decide where you end up. This site’s job is to make that hand visible.
Who builds it
The Visible Hand was started by a student going through this decision, with help from family, and is operated by Medical Futures Group, LLC. It is an independent project: not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by any university, and it uses no university logos or brand marks.
What it is not
- Not a ranking. The site compares programs; it does not say which is best.
- Not advising. Talk to the university's academic advisors before registering.
- Not the official record. For planning only. This information may be incomplete, incorrect or out of date. Not affiliated with or endorsed by any university. The official academic calendar is the authority; always confirm with the university.
